Auckland Diner's Diary: July 2015

International Flavours

• Madam Woo - Josh Emmett's Auckland branch of his modern Asian Queenstown restaurant, with Chinese and Malay style street food. (Apparently, a Dunedin branch will open in September.)
• JadeTown Uyghur Cuisine (乌鲁木齐美食) - Uyghur food on Dominion Road
• Rumi - Persian cuisine in Parnell
• The Bamboo Basket - Vietnamese style baguettes and snacks at Atrium on Elliott
• Erawann Thai - Thai restaurant off Richmond Road in Grey Lynn. As far as I know, not the same as Erawan Thai which used to be on Jervois Road
• Viva - Italian restaurant in the IMAX complex
• Gujarati Dhaba - Indian restaurant in the Norman Ng building on K'Road, previously home to a string of failed restaurants
• Singh's Style - Indian takeaway on Beach Road
• [Added 19 September 2015: Top Cafe - dumpling house on Cross Street, with Tiajin style dumplings. A restaurant of the same name used to be around the corner on Upper Queen Street, but this place has new owners and a different menu.]
• [Added 20 November 2015: Rickshaw Cafe - Vietnamese and European food on the menu at this cafe on Jervois Road in Ponsonby.]

Beers and Bites

• Ralph's Bar and Eatery - burgers and more from the people behind Vinyl Coffee Shop. 
• The Glass Goose - rooftop bar opposite the Sky Tower, from an experienced team
• Laneway - downstairs night spot in Remuera, an extension of Remuera Local
• Urchin and Amber - fish and chips and Auckland brews on Vulcan Lane, where the Queen's Ferry Hotel used to be

Pop-Up Shops

• Kraken Crumpets - stall selling sweet and savoury crumpets as well as coffee, often on Khyber Pass in Newmarket
• Fort Greene - homemade sandwiches with bread baked daily, often found at the Street Food Collective at Lot 3 in Ponsonby
• Zero Moo - dairy free ice creams and yoghurts now has a home at the La Cigale Market
• Scarecrow is moving to a new pop-up location at 42 High Street while its home is being refitted

Feel Good Factor

• This That Cafe - cafe and exhibition space opposite the Central City Library, with a focus on tea.

• [Added 5 August 2015: GAINZ - short for Grow and Inspire NZ, this eatery next to the Crab Shack was started to help people reach their goals]
• [Added 22 January 2016: The Little Lunchbox - paleo-friendly little cafe in Eden Terrace, at the Ludus Magnus gym, from former Warriors player Brent Webb]

Coming Soon

• Little and Friday is opening yet another branch on Tuesday, rumour has it in Ponsonby, where Good One used to be
• Blend - coffee and cycle shop coming soon to Eden Terrace
• Cakes and Ladders - board game cafe on Symonds Street, hopefully opening in late August
• Rockefeller Champagne and Oyster Bar will be opening in the Kauri Timber Co. building on Fanshawe Street

Longer Plans

• Krd Food Workshop - upmarket dining and food shopping hub on K'Road, similar to the Ponsonby Central concept
• Jamie's Italian is rumoured to open in Queen's Rise, in the old BNZ building on Queen Street
